Ontario Honda Dealers: In the News
Ten 2006 passenger cars won praise from the insurance industry for offering top-of-the-line protection to passengers in front, side and rear crashes. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced a new designation, the Top Safety Pick award, based on the performance of vehicles in their crash tests. Among the winners of the Institute's gold award was the Honda Civic four-door. The awards, which consider a vehicle's overall safety, replace the previous practice of providing 'best pick' designations for vehicles in each of the three tests. The all-new Honda Civic has captured Motor Trend magazine's "Car of the Year" award, the publication for auto enthusiasts announced today. The magazine said that it is giving the award to the Civic for all four of its new versions. "Honda deserves a standing ovation for not playing it safe again," said a statement from Angus MacKenzie, Motor Trend editor-in chief. "With the sizzling Si, a sleek coupe, an elegant sedan, and a Hybrid that averages 50 miles per gallon, each model shines through with what Motor Trend looks for when crowning Car of the Year". With a newly announced cause of combating global warming, Prince Charles has been offered the use of a new Honda Civic Hybrid by the automobile company. The new Civic Hybrid, which goes on sale in January 2006, is exempt from the congestion charges that most other vehicles in Britain are subject to.

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) recently announced this year's "Greenest" and "Meanest" vehicles, as well as environmental scores for all model year 2004 cars and passenger trucks. The vehicle scores are part of ACEEE's Green Book(R) Online, which helps consumers compare vehicles on the basis of a "Green Score," a measure that incorporates tailpipe emissions, fuel consumption, and the emissions of gases that cause global warming. The top five "Greenest" vehicles of model year 2004 are Honda's natural gas-powered Civic GX, followed by Honda's hybrid-electric two-seater Insight, Toyota's hybrid-electric mid-size sedan Prius, the Honda Civic Hybrid, and the Toyota Echo. Others in the top twelve are conventional gasoline vehicles from Nissan, Mazda, Hyundai, and Scion.
