Green Vehicle Solutions - Cool Cities: Solving Global Warming One ...
Although they typically cost more initially than standard gasoline-fueled cars, gas-sipping hybrids save on gasoline, have lower maintenance costs, and retain a higher resale value at the end of their useful life, according to Charlotte's Fleet Environmental Analyst David Friday. Mr. Friday estimates that switching from a gas-only Ford Taurus to a hybrid Toyota Prius or Honda Civic would save city taxpayers approximately $800-$1200 annually per vehicle, including over $400 in annual fuel costs.

CLEAN- Honda Civic Hybrid
The Civic hybrid offers a look and feel parallel to that of the conventional Honda Civic with all the standard features. In fact it drives just like the conventional hybrids but with one significant difference; a fuel savings up to 30% better while simultaneously meeting ultra low emissions vehicle standards. The Civic Hybrids combined power sources of gasoline and electric power allow the vehicle to reach up to 650 miles on a single tank of gas with 50-80% fewer emissions. The Civic Hybrid uses an Integrated Motor Assist (IMA), which combines a Dual and Sequential Ignition (DSI) with a gasoline engine and electric motor to raise the vehicles fuel economy and achieve greater performance. The IMA system allows the use of a smaller sized gasoline engine without sacrificing performance.

2/02 departments: news and notes
The Civic Hybrid will retain the Insight's idle-stop feature. When the car stops-at a traffic light, for example-the engine shuts off automatically, then restarts immediately when the driver lets off the brake pedal or puts the car into gear if it has a manual transmission.

Hybrid Cars - Power, Plugs and People
But don't delude yourself into thinking that these vehicles make any economic sense. The difference in mileage between let's say a conventional Honda Civic and the Hybrid version just doesn't justify the higher selling price even at $5 a gallon.
