2002 Honda Civic Si - The Car Connection
Honda's reprise of its sassy Civic Si hatchback for 2002 is an ideal case in point. Its pug-nose styling, tarted up in a "Euro Yellow Pearl" paint scheme that looks like Deli Mustard Metallic is certainly eye-catching, if not particularly inspiring. Its performance stats of 160 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque are certainly creditable for a subcompact car, but they're not particularly eye-popping. And yet, to slide into the surprisingly business-like driver's seat is to enter a special, private realm. "Quick" and "precise," moreover, are the operative terms when it comes to describing the Civic Si overall. If it has but one job to do, it is to shuttle its driver and up to four passengers from one point to another as quickly and as precisely as possible. Everything about the car is nimble and responsive. Steering is lightning fast. The interaction of clutch and shifter ought to be an industry benchmark.
Honda Civic Si - Customized with Mobile Audio Equipment
The import scene is by far the hottest car culture in the nation, especially in Southern California. Props in this scene come from taking the latest pocket rocket to the next level. Practically every square inch of Brian Yoshino's 2002 Honda Civic Si screams high performance. From the 19" Konig alloys and carbon fiber hood, to the Turbonetics turbo and healthy shot of Nitrous, this ride is a far cry from the box stock Civic that rolled off the lot. What better way to complement the extensive performance upgrades than with Polk Audio's Momo line of high performance speakers? The Momo name is practically synonymous with high performance, so for Brian it was the obvious choice.
Inside Line: First Drive: 2002 Honda Civic Si - Live From the UK ...
Driven over the same type of roads, bumpy or not, a 2002 Honda Civic Si would likely be faster than the previous Civic Si coupe, therefore making it the fastest Si ever. But after driving the car, there's a feeling that the original Si spirit has been overshadowed by Honda's more modern goals of extra room, better safety and additional creature comforts. The new Civic Si is no longer a willing partner to being whipped around corners. The engine, too, doesn't fit the old mold. Though certainly by design, it doesn't eagerly give off an extra burst of speed like the old VTEC Civic Si coupe used to. Instead, it just pulls cleanly toward the 6,800-rpm redline.
