From April 8th through June 8th of 2003, two hard-working bands - Good Charlotte and New Found Glory - crisscrossed the USA, performing for their fans coast-to-coast, promoting their latest CDs, and giving away some smokin' automobiles. The 2003 Civic tour was a raging success, and (as with Honda's previous tours with Blink-182, Incubus and Everclear) twelve customized Honda Civic Si cars - one model designed by Good Charlotte and the other by New Found Glory - were given away to 12 lucky fans across the country. Honda gave away twelve Civic Si Hatchbacks: six were custom-designed by Good Charlotte, six by New Found Glory. Each Honda Civic Si was outfitted by Wings West and equipped with an $11,000 Alpine audio system!

The Si badge of honor has made its appearance on and off the Honda Civic over the past 15 years. These 2 letters mean quite a few things to the Civic cult following, most notably the dramatic increase in performance versus the base trim levels. While the 2003 Civic Si still boasts some of the same attributes as the original, the 2003 Civic Si has undoubtedly made some dramatic changes over the years. The 2003 Si looks nothing like the ordinary Civic's (as they once did), and for the first time the Si has topped a base MSRP of $19,000 in the United States. The Civic Si might not have improved its 0-60 times over the past 5 years, however the 2003 Civic feels faster than its predecessor, especially when stabbing the throttle in top gear. When accelerating under full throttle you still get that small Japanese racy exhaust note as you did with the '99-'00 models, although there is incontestably more of a calm with the current generation Si's sound effects.

The styling of the Honda Civic Si hatchback seems to polarize people. Some think it's ugly; others love it and are quick to defend it. It's edgy and wedgy. The huge, flat windshield is steeply raked. The nose slopes radically downward, giving the car excellent aerodynamics and driver visibility. Its unique mesh grille is framed by huge triangular headlamps. The Civic Si features front and rear stabilizer bars and firmer dampers and springs than other Civic models, yet its ride quality is still pleasant. Transient response (left, right, left) is a little squishy, however. A high-performance set of tires may improve this behavior.
