honda civics

AutoWeek - The Auto Enthusiast's Online Resource
This concept and some preliminary specs torn from Honda two weeks before the Chicago show suggest it can, especially since the concept is "90 percent of what the production car will be," according to a Honda source. Even if you couldn't feel the difference, the tie-in with the Formula One cars and the vague belief that Civic suspension was taken from Honda's racing efforts kept the faithful transfixed. The same engineers who were in the paddock at Monaco and Motegi built this car, was the hope and the assumption. The loss of the wishbones made many feel the Corolla-ization of the Civic had begun. But Honda promises better control of the struts in this next Civic. Pafumi and his small team of engineers believed that sound would give the car an edge over the competition. So Honda gave the engineers leeway to enhance the acoustics of the Civic Si's intake and exhaust modules - as long as they didn't interfere with existing componentry.

Pedestrian Protection Honda set out to do well in these tests and this has been achieved. The Civics bumper gave a high degree of protection without compromising its performance. The front edge of the bonnet also showed its sound design. The bonnet hinges, latch design and wing mountings also incorporated measures to minimise impact forces.

Honda Civics
If you owned one of those first-generation Civics or had a friend who did, you no doubt remember its cramped cabin, tinny sheetmetal, and sewing-machine engine. It's hard to see any of that old Civic in today's multi-valve, dual-cam, high-powered Civic Si. Well, except for Honda's trademark reliability and efficiency. When this new line of larger and restyled Civics was introduced into the model mix, it included hatchbacks in trim levels of base, DX, and S, plus a cute little two-seat fastback coupe called the CRX. L non-VTEC engine in the DX (and nearly double the 70 hp from the CX engine). The 125hp VTECs are the B16A engines that are popular to swap into earlier Civics with commonly available aftermarket engine mounts (try Place Racing or Hasport online). The VX was also equipped with a VTEC engine, but one that was tuned for fuel economy, not power.

Review: 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid CVT
Honda got a head start in the hybrid field when it introduced the two-seat Insight with the ``Integrated Motor Assist'' (IMA) system in 1999. The Insight was and is an impressive little vehicle, but size is its major drawback. It is strictly a two-seater, with limited luggage space. So Honda took the lessons learned with the Insight and applied them to its ever-popular Civic sedan to create the Civic Hybrid last year. As a four-door sedan, the Civic Hybrid is fully capable of fulfilling the same transportation needs as any other small sedan. ROADABILITY: On the road, the Hybrid feels little different from any other Civic sedan. It uses the same MacPherson front, double- wishbone rear suspension as other Civics, but with slightly firmer spring and shock tuning. Unlike other Civics, the Hybrid uses an electric power steering system similar to those found in the Honda Insight and S2000, and the Acura NSX. Light alloy wheels are standard, for lower weight and improved efficiency. They are shod with fuel-efficient low rolling resistance tires, not sticky sport rubber. ``High performance'' in a hybrid context means efficiency, not speed, and there is the Civic EX sedan to cater to the sport market.

4Car Feature - Honda: Civic History - from Channel 4
In Europe, only rust would tarnish the car's reputation, flaking paint - which used to come off both Civics and Accords in depressingly large swathes - sending many cars to the crusher prematurely. Amazingly, this rather fundamental fault did not undermine Honda's reputation in the way that Alfa's and Lancia's suffered with similar problems. And indeed, within four years, production at Honda's Suzuka plant had already reached the magical one million mark, outstripping motorbike production, and the car sold unchanged for seven years.
