AutoSpeed - New Car Test - Honda CR-V Sport
The Honda CR-V has been a success story - more than a million have been sold worldwide since its 1996 launch and it has become one of Honda Australia's best sellers. Now a new CR-V has been released, featuring a larger engine, more interior space and revised styling. The Honda approach makes the car feel very much a front-wheel drive. In addition to the aforementioned squealing front tyres when the car is accelerated hard from a standstill, power understeer is quite pronounced. Unlike the X-Trail (which will already be in four-wheel drive when it sees much throttle being used) or a Subaru (which is always in viscous-coupled four wheel drive) the CR-V noticeably lacks the reassuring all-paw grip that you might expect from a car sold as a four-wheel drive. After all, a near 1500kg car poised 205mm high above the road needs all the cornering grip it can get... Certainly, the CR-V's system does finally react, but often in the cut and thrust of bitumen road manoeuvres it will be too late to have a major input into the car's handling behaviour. Off-road? This model changes the front suspension design from double wishbones to a toe-control MacPherson strut design - Honda say that there is no degradation in front wheel dynamic geometry with the change to the less well regarded system. At the back the double wishbones stay in place for this model.

2006 Honda CR-V SUV Review - Edmunds.com
The mini-SUV segment has now grown to include over a dozen different models, each with its own idea of what constitutes the perfect blend of size, power and capability. Some use larger V6 engines, while others boast real off-road capability. The Honda CR-V sticks with the philosophy of being a small carlike sport-ute first and foremost. There's still no V6 offered, and serious off-roading is out of the question, but in the all-important areas of drivability and practicality, the CR-V is hard to beat. The Honda CR-V is offered as a four-door SUV that seats up to five. There are three trim levels: LX, EX and SE (Special Edition). On the LX, you'll find power windows, locks and mirrors; cruise control; air conditioning; a CD player; rear heater ducts; and a cargo area-mounted 12-volt accessory outlet. EX models add keyless entry, alloy wheels, a moonroof, steering wheel audio controls, an outside temperature gauge and privacy glass. All CR-Vs include four-wheel antilock disc brakes, stability control, side airbags for front passengers and head curtain airbags for front and rear occupants as standard equipment. The Honda CR-V earned a perfect five stars across the board from the NHTSA for its protection in frontal and side impacts. In addition, the IIHS awarded a "Good" rating, also the highest possible, for the Honda's performance in the 40-mph frontal-offset crash test.

Test Drive Notes: Honda CR-V 2001
The CR-V is built on the Honda Civic platform and, not surprisingly, it feels a lot like a four-cylinder subcompact. Its two-liter engine puts out 146 horsepower, enough to land it squarely in the "adequate" category.

CanadianDriver: Test Drive - 2002 Honda CR-V
One thing that hasn't changed for 2002 is the CR-V's 'Real-time' 4WD system. This Honda system operates in front-wheel-drive until it senses front wheel slip, and then sends some engine power to the rear wheels. Critics of this system say it's slow to react and doesn't offer as much grip as full-time all-wheel-drive systems.

4X4REVIEW.COM: 1998 Honda LX CRV 4x4
The Honda CRV has been in production since 1995 but was only introduced to the United States in 1997. This little sport-ute definitely has its place in the market, especially since its the largest growing. The sport utility market has been growing faster than any other since the dawn of the industrial era. Just about every auto manufacturer has jumped on the bandwagon producing some type of 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle in a plethora of classes. Some of which fall short of expecations while others are great 4x4s with some serious potential even in the hard-core rock- crawlin realm.

Road Tests: Honda CRV 2.2i CDTI Road Test
The RAV-4 started the UK Sports Utility Vehicle thing back in June 1994. Then sprouted an extra pair of doors making it even more practical in June 1995. But the Honda CRV was an honourable second onto the scene, beating the LandRover Freelander to the market by 6 months in June 1997, and coming in at -L-2,000 cheaper. Its a little bit noisier in the CRV than in the Accord. And, just as it does in the Accord, it whistles. But it gives a very pleasant, smooth drive with no sudden turbo catapult effect and relaxed cruising at 30mph per 1,000 rpm in 6th. Thats reasonable gearing for towing a caravan up to 1,386kg, which is 85% of the cars kerb weight. The rear seats still get up to all sorts of tricks, reclining or sliding backwards and forwards to give 527628 litres of loadspace behind them, or folding up, headrests still in place, to free up 952 litres. Safety hasn't taken a back seat either because all three rear seats have proper three-point safety belts. And, with its new ultra-stiff body shell, Honda got a four-star result in the NCAP crash tests, together with the three stars for pedestrian safety which isnt only the best for any CRV, it isnt beaten by any saloon cars. This is the exception that makes nonsense of the case against 4x4 SUVs in towns.
